Depression and anxiety are no joke. But one comedian used her creativity to help increase people's understanding and empathy for those who suffer from it. I'm posting the full article here, hoping it helps you or someone you care about. Stay strong and smile as often as you can. :)     Sarah Flanigan has been fighting depression since she was 10 years old and anxiety since she was 16. "I wish everyone knew that depression is not something that people can just 'snap out of,'" she explains. "I mean, if I could 'snap out of it,' I would have [...]

If You Are Giving Up On Your Dreams, Read This

Learning, or re-learning, how to dream for our futures is one of the most important things a person can do. There is absolutely no reason to feel "stuck" once you tap into the power of your imagination and open up your life to new possibilites. But sometimes, we're tempted to just give up and "settle." (Although I don't necessarity endorse the company advertizing their service in a currently-running television commercial, I do enjoy their double-meaning use of the word "settler.")  Don't be a settler. Don't settle for anything less than your dreams. This article might help. I hope you enjoy [...]

Here’s what happiness looks like when you buy it. Don’t be that person.

Some people ... mistakenly ... think that they can "buy" happiness by getting more money. As you'll see in this article, it's not true. Quite the opposite actually. Hope you enjoy this:     "Alan Watts" isn't exactly a household name. Recognize this guy? Yeah, neither did I. Watts was a British philosopher. The website dedicated to his memory lists him as "a foremost interpreter of Eastern thought for the West." He died in 1973. But I hope most households will one day tune in to his way of life. The ideas are a little shocking, but hear them out. [...]

Kindness is more important than most people think.  It has the power to literally transform a person's attitude and energy. It doesn't cost that much for the person giving it. But the consequences for those receiving it can change a person's life. Check out these videos. I really think you'll like them. Read more ... Simple Acts of Kindness - Give it a try Read more ... I hope this inspires you to spread a little kindness in your neighborhood.  Start with the people you love most.  You'll be surprised how much it will mean to them. :)

We all need encouragement

The power of encouragement. This is an awesome video. Hope you enjoy it. The Power of Encouragement If we can get in the habit of encouraging and affirming others, every relationship we have will improve. Here's a practical message from leadership professor Michael Zigarelli about how to build people up, rather than tear them down. Read more ... We all need encouragement. It's an unfortunate reality in our culture that many people withhold kind or encouraging words because they're afraid that the person will become prideful or arrogant. In my experience, it's just the opposite. People seem to light up [...]
victim mentality

Three Steps to Overcoming a Victim Mentality

June 4, 2015 @ 7:24 pm
by Tim Wright
One of the most destructive and life-sucking negative attitudes that people can fall into is having a “victim” mentality. It is an emotional trap that does far more harm than most people realize. It isolates the individual and drives other people away, who could potentially come alongside as allies to help them through a set of challenging circumstances. Helen Keller, the amazing inspirational writer and teacher who overcame the monumental challenges of being blind, deaf and mute, called self-pity “our worst enemy” and warned her readers and students against the pitfalls of yielding to it. A victim mentality keeps circling [...]

The Benefits of Smiling

June 2, 2015 @ 5:37 pm

If you want to change the way you feel to a more positive mood, you might try just smiling. Smiling actually changes your brain. Just the physical act of smiling releases powerful endorphins into your brain.  Endorphins are the chemicals in the brain that make you feel good. They’re the same chemicals that create the “runner’s high” for athletes.  You can get the same benefits just from smiling. Even though it may feel a little strange at first, if you stick with smiling for even a few seconds, you will actually experience your mood changing.  I’ve actually made myself laugh [...]

Facing Your Fears

One of most dreaded emotions that many people want to avoid feeling is the emotion of fear. You could almost say that many of us are afraid of being afraid. We don’t like the emotions of feeling out of control or of being threatened by others or by forces outside that could potentially harm us. The reality is that the emotion of fear was once a very useful emotion. In fact, our very survival depended on it. If a saber-toothed tiger suddenly appeared on the horizon, our body’s survival software kicked in and told us to get away from this very [...]

Changing Your Emotions – The Beginning

May 7, 2015 @ 7:01 pm
by Tim Wright
I started this website back in 2003. I had written an ebook, Changing Your Emotions, Changing Your Life, and I decided that creating a website would be the best way to let people know about it. It started out as a simple sales page to show people the benefits of being able to change your emotions instantly, but not long afterwards, the vision of the message I wanted to communicate began to expand and move beyond the content of the book. After a few years, I pulled down the sales page and let the website go dormant as I tried [...]
